The registration deadline for the Senior Cup softball tourney 2003 is here. Teams have until Aug. 1 to sign up for the fourth annual
Senior Cup—devoted exclusively to softball players over 40. Chicago Metropolitan Sports Association is the host for this open
tournament, to be held this year Sept. 6 and 7.
Last year's tournament drew teams from Dallas, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland, as well as several teams from Chicago and
one 'national' team of individual players from across the country. In addition to these teams, tournament organizers also expect
entries from St. Louis, San Francisco, Toronto, Austin and Milwaukee.
Individual players are also encouraged to sign-up early so they can be matched with teams who are still recruiting to fill their rosters.
'Our tremendous success last year at placing individual players on teams to fill out their rosters, along with the success of the
'national' team proved that we can accommodate anyone interested in being a part of this fun event,' according to Joseph DiMartino

Gay World Series in D.C.
During the week of Aug. 17-23, America's capital will host (for the first time) the 27th Gay Softball World Series (GSWS).
This annual week-long tournament crowns the champions in six divisions of softball play which make up the North American Gay
Amateur Athletic Alliance (NAGAAA).
Several Chicago teams are attending, including the Nubians, making history as the first all-African-American team to attend.
The Marriott Renaissance Washington, D.C., Hotel, 999 Ninth Street NW, will serve as the host hotel for Series 2003. Opening
Ceremonies (sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign) will be Tuesday, Aug. 19 on Freedom Plaza. The games will follow and
commence all week at various softball complexes (see www.Series2003.org).
The Closing Ceremonies will be held Saturday, Aug. 23 at Velvet Nation. Once again, Miller Lite is the presenting sponsor, and
American Airlines is the official airline for Series 2003. Other sponsors include Enterprise car rental and 1-800-Gay Live.
In addition to the games, many off-field events are scheduled for the week of tournament play. One of the major highlights is the
annual Talent Show and Celebrity T-Shirt Auction held at the host hotel in the Grand Ballroom. This year's show will be on
Wednesday, Aug. 20 starting at 8:30 p.m. The acts will be performed (by softball players) during the talent show portion, and the
autographed T-shirts will be auctioned in between the acts. All proceeds benefit local HIV/AIDS-, cancer-, and youth-related
organizations.
