A 79-yard drive capped by Cooper Kupp's 1-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Matthew Stafford gave the Los Angeles Rams (16-5) a 23-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals (13-8) on Feb. 13 at Super Bowl LVI at SoFi Stadium (in Inglewood, California).
It was the second consecutive year the home team won the Super Bowl after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (led by the now-retired Tom Brady) prevailed last year.
The Rams got their first NFL title since the 1999 seasonand their first representing Los Angeles since 1951, The Chicago Tribune noted.
The win was sweet redemption for Stafford, 34, was traded to the Rams from the long-suffering Detroit Lions in a package that included then-Rams quarterback Jared Goff.
And in one LGBTQ twist, five out gay men cheered on the Rams as part of the team's official cheering squad, along with 23 women. Three years ago, two of themQuinton Peron and Napolean Jinniesbroke the gender barrier as the NFL's first male cheerleaders to work the sidelines of a Super Bowl, the Los Angeles Blade noted.
Another LGBTQ-related detail is the fact that transgender woman Maureen Raisch designed the banner for this year's Super Bowla red, palm tree-layered logo with the roman numerals LVI.
