In Minneapolis, the Chicago Sky (2-1) held off a late charge by the Minnesota Lynx (0-4) to win 82-78.
Courtney Vandersloot scored five of her 16 points in the final 38 seconds to help the Sky prevail, ESPN noted. Emma Meesseman finished with 17 points, seven rebounds and seven steals for Chicago.
A team press release noted that three-time All-Star Allie Quigley made her 2022 season debut for the Chicago Sky today after missing the first two games of the season with a knee injury.
Nikolina Milic led the Lynx with 18 points. This game featured the top two picks of the 2008 WNBA Draft: the Sky's Candace Parker and Minnesota's Sylvia Fowles; Fowles played for the Sky from 2008 to 2014. They each scored 11 in this game for their respective teams.
The Sky will now travel to Seattle to square off against the Storm. The game will take place Wed., May 18, and can be viewed on Facebook and Marquee Sports Network.
The Chicago Fire FC (2-5-4) lost their fourth consecutive game after a promising start, falling to FC Cincinnati (6-5-1) 2-1 at Soldier Field.
Acosta's game-winning goal for Cincinnati came two minutes after Jhon Duran scored the equalizer for the Fire (2-5-4), the Chicago Tribune noted. Cincinnati took a 1-0 lead on an own goal off Rafael Czichos in the 33rd minute.
