Five days after Carli Lloyd scored five goals against Paraguay, Alex Morgan scored a hat trick (three goals) as the U.S. women's national soccer team (USWNT) downed the same country 8-0 on Sept. 21 in Cincinnati, The Sporting News reported.
Hometown product Rose Lavelle had a goal and three assists.
It was the 22nd straight home victory for the U.S. team, which led 4-0 before 15 minutes had elapsed.
U.S. national team fans at TQL Stadium held a pre-game tifo (choreographed banners, chants, etc.) in honor of Carli Lloyd, who is set to retire from the U.S. national team this month. She started on the bench, but came on in the second half and found yet another goalthe 134th of her career.
Lloyd will be back for one final camp in October when the USWNT faces South Korea over two matches to conclude the post-Olympic U.S. tour: Oct. 21, in Kansas City; and Oct. 26, in St. Paul, Minnesota.
