Longacre ( 1309 W. Wilson Ave.;longacrechicago.com )a chic restaurant known for its delectable Detroit-style pizza and morerecently opened in Uptown.
This BYOB retardant is for everyoneand it's certainly the place to be after a long day of work with friends or even on a leisurely weekend with family.
To start, my dining companion and I got a watermelon dish with Dutch feta and mint on arugula lime miso. This was very refreshing and light. The tart feta cheese complimented the juicy sweetness of the watermelon perfectly.
The Claw, a lobster and crab mix with cream cheese and veggies mixed throughout, was a good contrast to the watermelon dish. It was warm, served with pan bread. The lobster and crab were cooked flawlesslysoft and tender.
Next was a corn dish, with Mexican-style corn, lime mayo, cotija, cilantro and lime. The mix came with housemade tortilla chips that were crispy but not too hard. The corn tasted fresh, and was mild in taste with a slight spice at the end. I think this dish could have benefitted from a bit more cheese, cilantro and lime.
Finally, the star of the show, the Detroit-style pizza ( a rectangular pie that has a thick crisp crust ) was quite astounding. We got the Motor City Derby, which came with sausage, tomato, roasted garlic and chevre. As a pizza lover, I believe that if you are looking for a flavorful, juicy and piquant pie, Longacre's pizzas are for you. The deep-dish crust is made from scratch and is a good mix of fluff and crunch, with caramelized cheese on the edges. The 10'' by 14'' pizzas are easily shared amongst friends and can fill you up on their own.
The only dessert on the menu was also noteworthy: the shortcake, which came with a sweet biscuit, stone fruit, berries, lemon cream, whipped cream and mint. The biscuit was hearty, dense and not too crumbly. It harmonized well with the fresh berries and tart lemon cream.
The menu also includes four pizzas that are suitable for vegan diets. Overall, Longacre was a top-notch experience. The food was casual but sophisticated, and the spot has the ability to draw in a comprehensive crowd with its delicious pizza and eclectic vibe.
