Chicago—This Friday, January 20, at 8:15 pm, the Gene Siskel Film Center will present the Chicago premiere of You've Been Trumped, the critically acclaimed, award-winning documentary which was hand-selected by Michael Moore to play in his Traverse City Film Festival at which it won the Special Jury Prize.
Appearing in person will be the documentary's director, former BBC and CBC journalist Anthony Baxter, and special guest moderator Rosie O'Donnell, host of The Rosie Show, for OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network, and a Daytime Emmy Award winner. O'Donnell is an advocate of the documentary and has had an ongoing Twitter feud with Trump.
You've Been Trumped captures filmmaker Anthony Baxter's perception from the center of a cultural chasm. Told entirely without narration, the conflict between the glamorous, American billionaire Trump and a deeply rooted Scottish community is exposed.
This David and Goliath story follows the celebrity tycoon Trump in his efforts to build a luxury golf resort on the northeastern coast of Scotland. Having already purchased hundreds of acres along the coast, Trump strives to obtain one of Britain's last untouched, ecologically sound stretches of landscape. After legislators fall over themselves, nullifying their own environmental protection laws in order to aid Trump in his desires, only a handful of local Scottish landowners stand in his way.
With the green light from the Scottish Government, construction begins. Water and power service is interrupted, bulldozers invade, land disputes break out, complaints go ignored by the police, and the residents' town is reallocated. In spite of the havoc, the brave band of local residents vow to hold out against the destruction of their beloved wilderness at any cost.
Baxter's documentary is further enhanced with a moving score by Sigur Rós lead singer and guitarist Jónsi.
The Gene Siskel Film Center presents the Chicago premiere of You've Been Trumped, Friday, January 20, at 8:15 pm with moderator Rosie O'Donnell in person. A second screening will be presented Sunday, January 22, at 5:15 pm. Director Anthony Baxter will be present at both screenings, presented at the Gene Siskel Film Center of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, located at 164 N. State St.
Tickets to each screening are $11/general admission, $7/students, and $6/Film Center members. All tickets may be purchased at the Film Center Box Office.
