Roseanne, television's most-watched show, has been canceled in the wake of star Roseanne Barr's racist tweet regarding former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett.
Barr apologized to Jarrett after the comedian made a racially charged joke , and also added that she was "leaving Twitter" over the latest situation. "muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj," Barr originally tweeted on May 29 in response to a comment about Jarrett.
Wanda Sykes had already said she would not be working as consulting producer after finding out about Barr's tweet.
Sykes tweeted, "I will not be returning to @RoseanneOnABC."
In response to the show's cancellation, Barr's co-stars reacted with regret and outrage, according to TheWrap. "Roseanne's recent comments about Valerie Jarrett, and so much more, are abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show. I am disappointed in her actions to say the least," tweeted actress/Roseanne executive producer Sara Gilbert, who played Darlene.
Co-star Emma Kenney tweeted that she had called her manager to quit the show over Barr's statements when she learned the show had been canceled.
In addition, according to CNN, ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey said in a statement, "Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show."
Whitney Cummings has previously announced she would not be retuning as co-showrunner for next season. That announcement was unrelated to Barr's May 29 post.
