Among the cabinet reappointments and new appointments that Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker announced March 25 was Chasse Rehwinkel, as director of the Division of Banking at the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
Rehwinkel (a member of the LGBTQ+ community who once wrote for Windy City Times) previously served as the chief economist and director of the Bond Division for the Illinois Office of the Comptroller, where he worked on issues of state liquidity, public budgeting, debt issuance and access to capital. He has also served as the Comptroller's advisor on inter-fund borrowing, short-term lending, bond issuance and other fiscal issues.
Prior to his role with the comptroller's office, he was the director of policy for the Illinois state treasurer; in this capacity, he oversaw the creation of the National ABLE Alliance, a coalition of 16 state governments that created a set of affordable savings programs for people with disabilities.
It was previously announced that another member of the LGBTQ+ community, Mario Treto Jr., will now serve as secretary of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
