Reeling2015 is proud to host a group of films that empower identity and authenticity. This year's line-up features a number of narratives, documentaries, and shorts created by and for both the trans and gender-nonconforming communities.

THE NEW GIRLFRIEND ( UNE NOUVELLE AMIE )

FRIDAY, SEPT. 18, 7 p.m., LANDMARK THEATRE

Francois Ozon, France's premiere queer auteur ( TIME TO LEAVE, UNDER THE SAND, 8 WOMEN, SWIMMING POOL ) returns with another provocative examination of the boundaries of gender and sexuality in this playful, multifaceted dramedy about a young cross-dressing widower and his budding relationship with his late wife's best friend. French with English Subtitles.

TCHINDAS, DOCUMENTARY CENTERPIECE

SATURDAY, SEPT. 19, 5 p.m. LANDMARK THEATRE

A cinema verite look at the close knit world of a renowned transgender woman and her colorful cohorts in Cape Verde as they and their neighbors prepare for the annual Carnival festivities. A glittery, fabulous documentary winner at Outfest, TCHINDAS is exhilaratingly reminiscent of PARIS IS BURNING. Cape Verdean Creole with English Subtitles.

This film is co-presented by Affinity Community Services and The Ubuntu Center of Chicago.

FROM THIS DAY FORWARD

SUNDAY, SEPT. 20, 12:15 p.m. LANDMARK THEATRE

FROM THIS DAY FORWARD is a moving portrayal of an American family coping with an unforeseen and intimate transformation. When director Sharon Shattuck's father came out as transgender and became Trisha, Sharon was just in middle school. As the Shattucks reunite for Sharon's wedding, she seeks a deeper understanding of how her parents' marriage survived the radical changes that threatened to tear them apart.

IGNITING IDENTITIES, A COLLECTION OF SHORTS

SUNDAY, SEPT. 20, 3:15 p.m., CHICAGO FILMMAKERS

From the age of Shakespeare ( STILL A ROSE, starring PRETTY LITTLE LIARS' Troian Bellisario ) to 1970's suburban Pennsylvania ( THE PARKER TRIBE, featuring Second City alum David Koechner [ANCHORMAN, AMERICAN DAD!] ) to present-day Chicago ( SKYE ), these poignant, thoughtful films explore striking characters of all ages who defy traditional gender standards in more ways than one.

SPECTACULAR QUEERS, A COLLECTION OF SHORTS

SUNDAY, SEPT. 20, 8:30 p.m., COMFORT STATION

From bullhorn-toting activists to sexy arm wrestlers and queer hip-hop phenoms, all of your next crushes are in these powerful and intriguing shorts. Jam-packed with authenticity, these films explore topics too often ignored in the mainstream; from raw encounters with Chicago's night owls ( THE NIGHT SMOKERS OF CHICAGO ) to impactful tales of the inherently progressive force that is drag culture ( ENGENDER ) to genuine insight into the lives of three POC transmen and their respective communities ( PASSING ).

IN THE TURN

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 23, 6:45 p.m.,LANDMARK THEATRE

A powerful documentary about a 10-year-old Canadian transgender girl who finds acceptance in the company of a US-based queer roller derby collective known as The Vagine Regime. Crystal's story finds its place among the journeys of other queer skaters whose stories from LA to Brooklyn are folded into Erica Tremblay's inspirational film of empowerment and inclusion.

Director Erica Tremblay is expected to be in attendance for post-screening panel!

TWO 4 ONE

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 23, 9:15 p.m., LANDMARK THEATRE

A bittersweet comedic drama with a transgender hero in an unimaginable predicament. Oddball couple Adam and Miriam have a pivotal and ill-advised one night stand that sees them both winding up pregnant. Handled with nuance by writer-director Maureen Bradley and its winning cast, TWO 4 ONE is a funny, touching and heartfelt.
