On April 8, the Chicago Red Stars fell to the Mexican Women's National Team (MWNT) 5-2 at home.
The inaugural MexTour W match saw the professional debut of three Red Stars (Sophie Jones, Ally Schlegel and Mackenzie Wood) and the debut of new Red Stars players who saw their first minutes with the club (Julia Bianchi, Brenna Lovera and Taylor Malham).
Bianchi and Sarah Griffin scored for the Red Stars.
The Red Stars will next take on the Kansas City Current on Saturday, April 15, at 7 p.m. CT at SeatGeek Stadium.
Emily Fox and Lindsey Horan scored for the United States in a 2-0 victory on April 8 in Austin, Texas against Ireland that was marred by what appeared to be a serious left knee injury to Mallory Swanson, who plays for the Red Stars, The Chicago Tribune noted.
Swanson is the team's leading scorer this year with seven goals as the United States prepares for the World Cup this summer.
UPDATE: The Chicago Red Stars issued a press release on April 9 stating, "Swanson suffered a torn patella tendon in her left knee near the end of the first half in the USA's 2-0 victory over Ireland yesterday in Austin, Texas. She returned to Chicago today for further evaluation."
The Chicago Fire FC (2-1-3) defeated the Minnesota United FC (3-1-2) 2-1 on April 8 to remain undefeated at Soldier Field in 2023.
Chicago is now unbeaten through its first four matches (1-0-3) at Soldier Field this season, with the win against Minnesota snapping the Loons' four-match away unbeaten streak. Forward Kei Kamara scored two goals (or a brace), increasing his tally as the highest active goal scorer in Major League Soccer history with 142 goals.
The Fire will complete its three-game homestand on Saturday, April 15, against the Philadelphia Union at 7:30 p.m. at Soldier Field. The match will be broadcast live on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV+ and transmitted locally in Spanish on TUDN 1200 AM.
