On Sept. 27, a federal jury in Brooklyn convicted embattled R&B singer R. Kelly of racketeering by a federal jury in Brooklyn, the US Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York said, according to CNN.com .
Kelly has been on trial in New York for one count of racketeering, with 14 underlying acts that included sexual exploitation of a child, kidnapping, bribery and sex-trafficking charges. He was also charged with eight additional counts of violations of the Mann Act, a sex-trafficking statute.
The jury, composed of seven men and five women, began deliberating Sept. 24.
The verdict came 13 years after Kelly was acquitted of child-pornography charges at an Illinois state trial. |
