More than 200 historians gather Sept. 14 to 17 at the University of Chicago for the largest gay history conference ever held. "The Future of the Queer Past: A Transnational History Conference" is being organized by the Lesbian and Gay Studies Project at the University of Chicago and the University's history department, with the assistance of an external advisory committee.

On Thursday night of the U. of C. conference, the well-known performance artist Holly Hughes will stage Preaching to the Perverted. On Friday night, Brian Freeman, the founder of Pomo Afro Homos, will perform his new play, Civil Sex: The Life of Bayard Rustin.
Major lesbian filmmakers will also attend to introduce and discuss their films.
