EXPO Chicago unveils provocative art

EXPO Chicago, the International Exposition of Contemporary and Modern Art, took place Sept. 18-21 at Navy Pier.

Now in its third season, EXPO Chicago featured more than 140 of the leading galleries from around the world. Items ranged from the perplexing to the layered to the commercial to the unnerving—but were never boring.

Among the local galleries and other businesses featured in the expo were Russell Bowman Art Advisory, The Conservation Center, Stephen Daiter Gallery, Linda Warren Projects, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Bucketfeet ( which sells artist-designed shoes ), Carrie Secrest Gallery, Rhona Hoffman Gallery and Carl Hammer Gallery. Other galleries came from such cities as London; Melbourne, Australia; Madrid, Spain; San Francisco; New York City; Brussels, Belgium; and Tokyo.

EXPO Chicago was the centerpiece of EXPO Art Week, which joined together with more than 45 of the city's most prestigious cultural institutions to highlight and align the vast cultural opportunities that Chicago has to offer to collectors, dealers and art enthusiasts—including museum exhibitions, gallery openings, installations, public art projects and special dining experiences.
