Proud to Run (PTR), a charitable walk/run event held each pride season, has announced new beneficiaries, after opening up their application process.
Pride Youth Program of Links, Test Positive Aware Network (TPAN) and The Night Ministry will benefit from the June event.
Tim Henney, a co-director of PTR, said that PTR opened up its application process after several groups asked to be considered.
Not on the list of this year's recipients is the Gerber/Hart Library and Archives, which was previously a PTR beneficiary for years.
Gerber/Hart was the subject of a Windy City Times investigation last year, after the library announced a move amid questions about its governance. The library has yet to re-open after nearly a year, but board members have vowed increased transparency and promised that the library would open soon.
Henney said PTR had been considering a more formalized application process prior to the Gerber/Hart controversies, but said that questions raised about the library as well as the fact that it has been closed also encouraged PTR to implement an open application process.
The application was open to Gerber/Hart and other groups, Henney said.
Of the eight that applied, PTR selected Pride Youth Program of Links, Test Positive Aware Network (TPAN) and The Night Ministry by a close vote.
