The allegations at the center of an indictment against former House Speaker Dennis Hastert revolve around the sexual abuse of four or five boys, according to reports.
The incidents, which will not be prosecuted because of statutes of limitation, were mentioned by prosecutors in a sentencing memo on April 8. Hastert admitted in Oct. 2015 to structuring bank withdrawals to avoid oversight when paying hush-money to one of the victims. Hastert suffered a stroke in Nov. 2015.
"The actions at the core of this case took place not on the defendant's national public stage but in his private one-on-one encounters in an empty locker room and a motel room with minors that violated the special trust between those young boys and their coach," said prosecutors. The alleged incidents took place when Hastert was a coach and teacher in Yorkville, Illinois.
Hastert's sentencing is scheduled for April 27. His lawyers filed a petition asking that details of the investigation remained sealed. That matter is to be determined the week of April 11.
