With the spate of anti-trans measures being filed, passed and/or signed throughout the country, at least two trans-related events will take place in Chicago within the next week.
On Monday, March 28, at 5:30 p.m. at Federal Plaza, 219 S. Dearborn St., a coalition of Illinois organizations will hold a press conference and rally to educate people about the attacks on trans and queer people across the country and encourage folks to take action to support trans and queer in the states.
Some of the speakers will include trans activist Eisha Love; former Illinois state Sen. Heather Steans, who is a parent of a trans youth; Brave Space Alliance's Stephanie Skora; Equality Illinois' Myles Brady Davis, a transgender individual; Life Is Work CEO Zahara Bassett; and Association of Latino/as Motivating Action (ALMA) board member David Guana.
And on Thursday, March 31also the 13th annual International Transgender Day of Visibilitythe trans-led Brave Space Alliance (BSA) will lead a rally at Daley Plaza, 50 W. Washington St., at 3-5 p.m. (Earlier that day, a news conference is slated to happen in the Illinois Capitol Building in Springfield.)
The rally is slated to feature BSA CEO LaSaia Wade, state Sen. Jacqueline Y. Collins and state Rep. Lamont Robinson, among others.
The day aims to celebrate the successes and resilience of transgender and non-binary people and raise awareness of the discrimination they face and need to continue advocacy for equitable rights.
