Chicago author Owen Keehnen will attend the October 17 meeting of Chicago Prime Timers Gay Book Club/Discussion Group at 7 pm at Center on Halsted. The book for discussion that evening is Keehnen's newest book, "The Sand Bar," published in May 2012. The group meets monthly at Center on Halsted, the third Wednesday of each month, to discuss relevant books on gay subjects or of general interest to the gay community, some fiction, some non-fiction, both modern and classic, but always with a view to leading to an active discussion of gay issues.

With Keehnen attending the discussion group, those attending will have the opportunity to ask him any questions about characters or events in the book, etc. Frequently, in the monthly discussions, there are differing opinions of what the author meant by this or that. This month, with Keehnen attending, there is the opportunity to definitely settle any differing opinions.

The Sand Bar is a sexy, funny, and touching mosaic novel set in the gay community of a small Southern river town during the 1980's. Full of quirky characters, The Sand Bar traces their lives through the years, starting with the opening of the bar.

Writer and historian Owen Keehnen has had his fiction, essays, erotica, reviews, and interviews appear in hundreds of magazines and anthologies worldwide. He lives in Rogers Park with his partner, Carl, and his two ridiculously spoiled dogs, Flannery and Fitzgerald. He was inducted into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame in 2011.

The Chicago Prime Timer book club/discussion group meetings are always open to the gay community at large. It is not required that one be a member of Prime Timers.

Everyone is welcome to attend this discussion with Owen Keehnen and meet him. The Sand Bar is readily available for purchase at Chicago book stores.
