Pope Francisin the news lately because of the Catholic Church's stance that it cannot bless same-sex unions, adding that it is "not licit" to bless relationships that involve sexual activity outside of marriageis the subject of the documentary Francesco, opening in virtual cinemas on March 26 and streaming globally on Discovery+ two days later.
In the film, director Evgeny Afineevsky follows the pontiff (pre-pandemic) and discusses issues such as climate change, refugees, social inequalityand LGBTQ rights.
The pope made news last October when it was reported that he supported same-sex civil unions. However, some contend that the recent Catholic Church statement regarding same-sex unions would seem to suggest the opposite.
