With the white-hot single 'New Horizon,' SupaNova's message of oneness, self-love and healing could not be more clear, even on a cloudy night. Looking like a mix between Iman and Pete Burns and accompanied by a voice often compared to the late Sylvester's, New York's SupaNova is making an impact in club land.
While SupaNova worked with the likes of Janet Jackson and Dannii Minogue, it is time for him to helm his own endeavors. Supa sang on Dannii's Mardi Gras hit 'Everlasting Night' and danced with Miss Jackson on her Rhythm Nation tour, even working on the choreography with the legendary Cyd Charisse for Janet's 'Alright' video. But the charismatic Nova notes, 'I have always been linked with another performer, now I am naked on stage, stepping out on my own. This is what it is and what it is about. It's a very powerful time in my life.'
He even admits that he has drawn comparisons to New York's club kid Kevin Aviance and found inspiration in the icons from Studio 54. With a chuckle SupaNova says he was 'moved and inspired by those who left a blazing trail.'
Supa knows that he is a role model for the youth who are questioning their sexuality and gender identity—all the more reason for his songs to have a much-needed message of hope, freedom, empowerment and unconditional love. Looking to one of his idols, Supa recalls, 'Sylvester said, 'If you get what I am doing, you will get past that,'' referring to his image and sexuality.
Some of New York's hottest names have been recruited to remix 'New Horizon,' including Denny Tsettos, BlueRoom, 2 Da Groove Productions and Keith Kemper. While that may pack a dance floor, Supa sees a further layer to his music. Supa added that the drums from dance music have a healing power, a tribal tradition that seems to be overlooked.
SupaNova is keeping busy, feeding off of the ever-present creative energy in New York City. He plans to head to the studio soon to record his follow-up singles in between working with his label mates and striking a pose as a model.
Project Publicity has launched a new dance label: D1 Music, which boasts bright and talented acts like SupaNova and Lisa Hunt, the vocal sensation behind the club anthem 'The Joint is Jumpin'.'
