Grilled foods, pulsating music and—most importantly—rows of paraphernalia promoting everything from anti-violence hotlines to safe sex were the order of the day at the GLBT Youth Health Fair, which was held June 19 in the parking lot of the 7-11 at Halsted and Roscoe and sponsored by the 23rd District Police Department.
Jose Rios, one of the organizers of the event and a GLBT liaison for the police department, said that, 'We want the kids who hang out on Halsted every summer to go someplace where they can feel safe. They get some music, some food and, hopefully, a little health information so they can find out about the services offered to the GLBT youth in our area.'
