The Chicago Metropolitan Sports Association's ( CMSA's ) largest women's volleyball season will wrap up with teary eyes cast over the championship, scheduled for March 18.

Peg Grey, a women's sports pioneer, recently died—and she was a member of the C-Division Golden Girls, a team of women all over 50.

'They are phenomenal—a really, really talented team. They have some really skilled players,' said Kristen Polich, 35, the league's commissioner.

At the last regular-season game, most of the players had black tape on their jerseys in tribute to Grey and, at the league's season-ending party and awards gala on March 18 at Star Gaze, 5419 N. Clark, Polich will offer a tribute to Grey.

'There was a lot of interest in the league this season. In fact, some teams were turned away due to gym space,' said Polich. 'The season ran very smooth, probably better than expected. I've received a lot of positive feedback from a lot of women who have played in the league for many years. So, yes, overall, I'm very happy.'

All matches this season were held at the Chicago Park District Field House at Kilbourn Park, 3501 N. Kilbourn. The finals will take place at the same venue.
