The National LGBTQ Task Force has announced the individuals selected to participate in this year's Transgender Leadership Exchange, a unique six-month leadership development program for transgender and gender non-conforming community leaders. The program will by facilitated by Chicagoan Angelica Ross and Jakob Hero.
"Since 1973, the National LGBTQ Task Force has helped nurture and develop thousands of LGBTQ activists who have gone on to achieve lasting change in a whole variety of advocacy areas. This year's record-breaking number of 245 applicants for this leadership program indicates a heightened interest within the community to continue supporting leaders who are working to eliminate ongoing barriers to freedom, justice and equality for LGBTQ people," said Rev. Darlene Nipper, Deputy Executive Director, National LGBTQ Task Force.
The twenty-two community leaders selected to participate in the program represent a wide range of backgrounds and include campaign organizers, policy advocates, faith leaders, higher education professionals, and community center workers. The participants also represent a large diversity in racial, ethnic, religious, geographical, socio-economic, and immigrant backgrounds.
