Public Health Institute of Metropolitan Chicago (PHIMC) announced Chicago Freedom School as the 2021 recipient of the Mary F. Morten Award for Justice.
According to a release, "Chicago Freedom School is being recognized for its vital role in supporting young people during the protests which gained national attention last summer, for its 14-year history of supporting liberatory education for young people, and for catalyzing youth-led social change."
Last year, PHIMC Executive Director Karen A. Reitan presented the inaugural Mary F. Morten Award for Justice to its namesake. Mortena PHIMC board member and part of the LGBTQ+ communityis the president of Morten Group, LLC, a national consulting firm established in November 2001 to focus on clients in the nonprofit, for-profit and foundation fields.
The award will be presented during "Invigorate: A B.Y.O Brunch for Public Health" on Sunday, Nov. 7. This event will occur virtually at 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
