PETA: Martin Sheen y amigo de Cesar Chavez

El actor ganador de varios premios Martin Sheen, notificó a Alfredo Kuba (residente en Mountain View, Calif.) que es el ganador del primer Premio 'Sí, Se Puede', que tiene el objetivo de reconocer los méritos de personas de la población Hispana que recogen el legado de activismo y compromiso de César Chávez con la justicia hacia los animales. La felicitación por parte de Sheen también viene acompañada del premio de 1000 $ para el activista.

'Como compañero hispano, activista, y amigo de César Chávez, quisiera agradecerte que luches por hacer realidad este sueño de crear una manera de vivir más pacífica, compasiva y sana' escribe Sheen, quien recibió el prestigioso Lifetime Achievement Award de la Imagen Foundation en 1998 por su retrato positivo de los latinos en películas, televisión y anuncios.

El Sr. Kuba fue elegido entre cientos de nominados de la comunidad hispana de toda la nación que trabajan incansablemente para la causa de la protección animal y la promoción del vegetarianismo. Sheen era amigo personal de César Chávez, en cuyo honor PETA creó este premio.

Chávez, celebraría su cumpleaños el 31 de Marzo, y fue considerado 'una de las figuras y heroicas de nuestro tiempo'por el Senador Robert F. Kennedy. No sólo fue el portavoz más activo de los derechos de los trabajadores inmigrantes en la historia de esta Nación, sino que se opuso a las deplorables condiciones en que los animales eran criados y sacrificados para comida y se volvió vegetariano en 1968 'después de darme cuenta de que los animales, al igual que nosotros también sienten temor, frío, hambre y tristeza'.
