PERFORMER OF THE WEEK Travis Fiero

BEHIND THE NAME:

"I was stressing about finding the perfect drag name and I finally just asked my roommate what it should be and she goes 'I don't know, Travis? Yeah, do Travis' and then went back to eating her sandwich. And Travis stuck. Fiero was just fun to say and reminded me of fire."

FIRST DRAG PERFORMANCE:

"I was trying to figure out my gender identity and there were a lot of complex emotions attached to it. Luckily, my best friend at the time, who also still does drag under the name Bambi Banks, was also experimenting with drag, so our journeys began to merge and by our senior year of college we were running a very successful drag show at our school. Our first show was my first performance and it was 'White Wedding' by Billy Idol."

DRAG INSPIRATION:

"Recently, I've been getting a lot of ideas from abstract sculpture and avant-garde fashion, and I have been experimenting with body painting."

GO-TO NUMBER TO SLAY THE CROWD:

"'The Black Parade' by MCR or 'Thnks fr the Mmrs' by Fall Out Boy—they're high-energy, they're nostalgic, and I have known the words and the emotions behind those songs for decades, so I know that there is no way I can get into my head about."

BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION ABOUT YOU:

"That I am an extrovert—I am a social person for sure and I love being out and being with people; but in order to do that I spend hours and hours alone recharging. Literally, I spend hours just thinking in my bedroom or alone in coffee shops. For me, solitude is necessary for creation."

WHERE CAN WE CATCH YOU:

"I've been taking gigs more selectively lately to work on some underground projects and photo shoots. But every month I host Flannel Fridays on the first Friday of the month at Hamburger Mary's."
