Floyd Edwin "Butch" Roose, 71, born in Toledo, OH to Betty and Floyd Roose; died 20mar16, at home in Chicago, with his spouse Kelly at his side. Butch started High School in Toledo, graduated in Ladysmith, WI, attended Ohio State University, then graduated in 1979 from University of Wisconsin.
Butch met Kelly Walkner on December 26, 1997 in Chicago. Kelly worked for United, so they both shared a love of aviation. The couple wed May 20, 2014. Butch was hired by Western Airlines in 1976 as a flight attendant based in Minneapolis and Salt Lake City. When Western merged with Delta in 1987, Butch lived in Salt Lake City, Chicago, and New York City. When first based at JFK, Butch walked into the flight attendant lounge and said "My name is Butch. Don't called me Floyd" and went on to fly to Amsterdam, Moscow, Athens, Istanbul, Stuttgart, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Lyon, Rome, and Venice.
Butch loved to travel by train, plane, and ship. He went on several cruises and enjoyed shopping for crystal on his many European adventures.
An avid sports fan, particularly of Ohio State football (really, almost any sport Ohio State played), he also followed U of Wisc. football, Chicago Blackhawks, wrestling, swimming, and diving. He enjoyed all the holidaysChristmas, Easter, Halloween; loved to watch kids open their gifts, Easter egg hunts, and Halloween costumes.
Butch looked forward to his retirement in 2008. He traveled a bit and just loved not having those 5am check-ins. Unfortunately, his health took a downturn and the past few years he was confined pretty much to home.
He had a great sense of humor and if you were lucky to be his friend, he would do anything for you.
Spouse of Kelly Walkner, son of Floyd, brother of Richard (Kathleen) Roose and Sharon (Mike) Plomb, uncle and friend of many. Preceded in death by mother Betty.
Butch will be missed by all that he touched. May he rest in peace.
