In Florida, two pedestrians at a Wilton Manors Pride parade on June 19 were hit by a truck, leaving one dead and the other injured, according to media reports.
Video from CNN affiliate WPLG showed a man being taken into police custody shortly after the incident, but Fort Lauderdale Police Department detective Ali Adamson would not initially say if he was suspected of a crime. The Hill reported that Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Florida), who was present at the parade and sitting in a convertible, was almost hit by the vehicle.
Chris Caputo, city commissioner for Wilton Manors, the location of the parade, tweeted, "It seems increasingly probable it was an accident."
Fort Lauderdale Gay Men's Chorus President Justin Knight said through a spokesman to WPLG that the driver and the victims were all members of the community.
Wilton Manors, known for its LGBTQ-inclusive population, is part of the Miami metropolitan area.
