On a blustery, rainy day in Evanston, the Ohio State Buckeyes football team (#2 in the country with a 9-0 record) got by the Northwestern Wildcats 21-7 on Nov. 5.
"I've never been around conditions like this," Buckeyes coach Ryan Day said, according to ESPN. "It must have been 30-mile-an-hour winds. And if you've ever tried to golf in 30-mile-an-hour winds, it's hard to get off the tee, [let alone] throw a football."
The Buckeyes didn't score until the closing minutes of the first half, tying NU at 7-7.
The Wildcats (1-8) dropped their eighth straight game, matching their worst skid since the 1998 team lost eight in a row. They are 5-17 since falling to Ohio State in the 2020 conference championship game. Northwestern will next visit Minnesota on Nov. 12.
In Canada, the Winnipeg Jets (7-3-1) shut out the Chicago Blackhawks (5-5-2) 4-0 on Nov. 5 a Central Division matchup.
Josh Morrissey and Pierre-Luc Dubois each had a goal and an assist, and Nate Schmidt and Adam Lowry also scored to help Winnipeg improve to 5-0-1 in its last six games, ESPN noted.
Arvid Soderblom started in goal for Chicago and the Swede stopped 21 of the 24 shots he faced through two periods. Dylan Wells came on to begin the third and had 12 saves in his NHL debut. Chicago has already lost goalies Petre Mzrak and Alex Stalock to injuries.
Chicago won't play again until Thursday, Nov. 10, when the Blackhawks visit the Los Angeles Kings at 9:30 p.m. CT.
