YWCA to honor Morten Oct. 22
The Evanston/North Shore YWCA will honor Mary Morten at this year's YWomen Leadership Awards dinner.
The event will take place Wed., Oct. 22, at the Hilton Orrington Hotel, 1710 Orrington Ave., Evanston.
The YWomen Leadership Awards recognize, support and promote women's leadership and the impact women have in the community.

Point Foundation event Oct. 16
The Cornerstone Society of the Point Foundationa scholarship-granting organization for LGBTQ students of meritwill hold a reception Thursday, Oct. 16, 6-8 p.m., in the grand foyer of Plante Moran, 10 S. Riverside Plaza.
Attendees will have the chance to meet with scholars and alumni, and hear their stories while enjoying cocktails and appetizers.

NCLR benefit in Chicago Oct. 18
The National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) will benefit from an event hosted by Chicago-area lesbian philanthropist Sarah Schmidt Saturday, Oct. 18, 5-7 p.m., in Wilmette.
Schmidt, a National Leadership Council member of NCLR, is also a co-founder of LPAC, the national lesbian political action committee.
Kate Kendell, Esq., NCLR executive director, said the program will update guests on NCLR's work:
Fighting for marriage equality and gaining full legal recognition for all LGBT relationships and families.
Protecting LGBT youth from the dangerous practice of conversion therapy.
Assisting LGBT immigrants who are fighting to keep their families together or gain asylum from persecution and civil unrest.
Confronting rampant anti-LGBT bias in sports through NCLR's Sports Project.
Working towards ensuring access to safe and affordable transgender healthcare.
Working closely with federal agencies to ensure that services are fully accessible to LGBT people and families in rural America.
