20TH ANNUAL OUTMUSIC AWARDS NOMINATIONS ONCE AGAIN REFLECT A WIDE ARRAY OF ESTABLISHED AND RISING TALENT FROM ACROSS THE LGBT COMMUNITY

American Idol Conestant RJ Helton's "Blessing" Chosen as this Year's Theme Song

Winners To Be Revealed on Dec. 1 When the 20th Annual OUTMUSIC Awards

Take Center Stage from Town Hall in New York City

LOS ANGELES ( November 1, 2010 ) — The journey to the road of equality in the music industry for LGBT artists began today when nominations for the 2010 Annual OUTMUSIC Awards ( www.outmusic.com ) were announced at a press conference attended by national and international media at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hill, Calif. Announcing nominations today included LA Talk Radio hosts Tony Sweet and Kim Yarborough. This year's nominations highlight an eclectic mix of well-known and emerging performers and creative professionals. The 2010 OUTMUSIC Awards, set for December 1 at Town Hall in Times Square, the awards ceremony will begin at 8 p.m. ET.

I'm so very proud to continue the 20 years of the organization in recognizing the best and the brightest in the LGBTQ music community and spotlight the quintessential group of LGBTQ music makers that work so hard to highlight their talent in an industry that often overlooks us," said Diedra Meredith, chairwoman of the board of directors for the LGBT Academy of Recording Arts ( LARA ) home of the OUTMUSIC Awards.

Comedians Julia Goldman and Jonny McGovern as well as classical pipe organist T. Desiree Hines made appearances at the press conference addressing attendees on the importance of organizations like OUTMUSIC in the fight for equality in the music industry. The foundation also announced it has selected American Idol contestant RJ Helton's song "Blessing" as it theme song for this year's awards.

The Foundation also unveiled its Sponsor A Young Person initiative public service announcement, which features Melissa Etheridge, Carol Channing, Bishop Gene Robinson, Chely Wright, Tammy Peay, Tony Sweet, Yetta Kurland, Calpernia Adams, Kamora Herrington, Shangela of RuPaul's Drag Race, Julie Goldman, Jonny McGovern, the cast of Drama Queenz, Deepa Soul, Momma and Melange Lavonne among others. With nearly 2.5 million young homeless young people in America and the rapid increase of new HIV/AIDS infections among young people between the ages of 13-25 in the U.S., the organization launched its Sponsor A Young Person initiative to shine a spotlight on the next generation to help raise crucial awareness and offer solutions to eradicate this increasing pandemic.
