The North Coast Music Festival line-up took place in Union Park over Labor Day Weekend, with the weather holding out this year (as opposed to last year, when there was constant rain that Sunday). The colorful crowds seemed to enjoy themselves from the food to each booth, which included everything from fried items to chocolate-dipped bananas. The stages may have been timed better than Lollapalooza, with hopping from one act to the other possible because of strict musical schedule.
Sunday (Sept. 2) brought promising DJ sets from the furry duo BoomBox to the face-painted English Modestep. Their energy kept the crowd jumping as well as screaming in the daytime. Chuckie really showed it off as people danced until Steve Aoki graced the Red Bull Stage. His long hair swung in the breeze for his unique set while it was hard to maneuver in a group that even swung from the trees.
Running over into the North Stage, Big Boi from Outkast maintained a hip-hop vibe. This seemed to be a trend worth repeating combined with dance music that kept the crowd jumping. Pretty Lights closed out the weekend with a banging tribute to old-school, finishing with his modern style.
Acts slated to perform over the weekend included Yelawolf, Milk N Cookies, Knife Party, Felix da Housecat, Girl Talk, Atmosphere and Moxxy, among many others. Photos and text by Jerry Nunn |
