RuPaul was in town on Saturday, Oct. 21, as part of a line-up of highly visible queer artists/allies that Circuit has booked for the next couple of months. Circuit, 3641 N. Halsted, was jam-packed with fans eager to meet the drag queen superstar.
RuPaul started his medley of hits at 1 a.m. The performance, which consisted of an occasional strut from one end of the stage to the other, appeared confined. Unlike RuPaul's act, the music dominated the dance floor. Revelers showed off dance moves to club hits such as 'Looking Good, Feeling Gorgeous' 'Back to My Roots' 'A Little Bit of Love' and the mega-hit 'Supermodel.' To his credit, the set was preformed live.
After the set he did an official CD signing in total darkness on the side of the stage. No special lighting was in place and, per the artist's request, only a small lamp illuminated the tabletop. No cameras or video recording were allowed into the venue and press requests for a photo op were denied. It was all just an illusion.
