The Illinois Safe Schools Alliance will be "breaking" the Day of Silence with its third annual variety show, "Night of Noise: Onward and Upward" on Sunday, April 14, at Haymarket Pub and Brewing, 737 W. Randolph St.
The event begins with a VIP reception at 5 p.m.; doors open for general ticket holders at 5:45 p.m., with a 6 p.m. start time.
Studentsholding to a tradition that started at the University of Virginia in 1996observe a Day of Silence to bring attention to those who cannot speak for themselves. They break that silence during a Night of Noise so they can celebrate each other, those who have come before them and those who will come after them.
Performers include poet/speaker Bea Cordelia, singer/songwriter Jace William, Piven Theatre's Young People's Company, sketch comedy group GayCo and award-winning tap dancers Reggio McLaughlin and Sarah Payne. Attendees will also be able to participate in a raffle featuring, among other things, themed gift baskets from James Horton and gift packages from Early to Bed and Vince the Baker.
