WHAT:
Benjamin Todd Jealous, NAACP President and CEO will meet with members of New York's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community to answer questions and share his views about the importance of all New Yorkers joining the rest of the nation in Washington. D.C. on October 2 in what "The Gay City News" describes as "one of the broadest, most-inclusive progressive coalitions ever assembled."
Stuart Appelbaum, Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union President will also be in attendance.
One Nation Working Together is a coalition of over 150 groups from across the country committed to ensuring that everyone is treated equally. Across the country, people are putting aside their differences and political agendas to denounce the tactics of hate and divisiveness. The demands of the coalition include:
Prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or sex.
Expand anti-discrimination laws to be inclusive of everyone.
Respect all families.
End all forms of workplace discrimination.
Provide all children equal access to high quality education in a safe environment.
End all forms of discrimination in the sale, rental and financing of housing.
