WASHINGTON, (May 17, 2023) — LGBTQ+ military nonprofit Modern Military Association of America (MMAA) announced today that nonprofit management expert Rachel Branaman, will step into the role of interim executive director. Branaman will serve in this position until the organization selects their new permanent executive director.

Branaman's role will focus on leading MMAA's policy decisions and promoting a positive environment for the communities they serve. During this time, MMAA will continue its thorough exploration for a full-time executive director, with Branaman's support during this transition period. The organization has assembled a team of board members, as well as third-party support, to find the ideal candidate for the role and aim to complete this transition by August 2023.

"I am honored to join the MMAA team, whose dedication to their cause is both admirable and inspiring," said Branaman. "I look forward to assisting the organization in its short and long-term goals during my period as interim executive director."

Branaman has a long, successful history of working in nonprofit, fundraising, and philanthropic organizational management. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Regis University with a master's degree in Nonprofit Management. Her Background includes serving in the U.S Peace Corps, as executive director for Dallas-based nonprofit Alley's House, and currently, as principal consultant of the nonprofit consulting firm, Talem Consulting.

"On behalf of MMAA's Board of Directors, I am thrilled to welcome Rachel onto our team to fill this leadership position as we work diligently to find a new director to fill this role," said Board Chair Dr. Joshua Fontanez. "Rachel's experience and leadership will bring a fresh strategic and operational insight and help the organization continue to flourish. Hiring an interim director allows the board time to give thoughtful consideration to the qualities, skills, characteristics, and qualifications needed in the next executive leader of MMAA to ensure the board's vision of a country where LGBTQ+ service members, veterans and their families have the support and resources they need and deserve."
