Milwaukee's PrideFest has announced plans to pay off the remaining debt from the 2003 festival year—three years ahead of schedule, according to a press release. The debt had the community concerned over the long-term continuation of the festival.
After highly successful 2004 and 2005 festivals, PrideFest has re-emerged as one of Milwaukee's top and most financially stable festivals. The announcement comes after the festival reported a net income of $90,000 from the 2005 festival.
PrideFest has scheduled a community town hall to celebrate the retirement of the debt and to preview the 2006 festival season. The event will be held Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Hillside Family Resource Center, 1452 N. 7th Street.
PrideFest is Wisconsin's largest celebration of LGBT culture and community. It is held annually in June at Henry W. Maier Festival Park on Milwaukee's lakefront.
