Gay Chicago Newsbox Vandalized
A newspaper delivery box for Gay Chicago magazine, at 5800 N. Sheridan, has been targeted in recent weeks with anti-gay graffiti and hate messages. This past weekend, the magazine reported that the box was burned.
The box is located in a heavily gay area of town, near the 'gay beach.'
Windy City Media Group had dozens of newspaper boxes throughout the city in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when the newspaper was known as Outlines. They were run over, stolen, marked with graffiti, and used as trash containers.
Rainbow flags and even bumper stickers on the homes and cars of GLBTs are frequent targets of attack. Partners Robert Castillo and John Pennyfcuff, whose flag has been attacked several times in the past few years, reported that it was torn again in early April.
Queers and Straight Girls
The first (of probably many) knock-offs of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy will be Queer Eye for the Straight Girl (not Queer Eye for the Lesbian Editor, as my colleagues suggest). Bravo is giving women their own Fab Five—a new team of gay lifestyle coaches. Next: Queer Eye for the Fag Hag, Queer Eye for the Gay Man, Queer Eye for the First Lady.
Another One Bites the Dust
Noah's Arc is expected to be a gay multi-cultural show later this year—just in time, as another ethnic gay has bit the dust. Dr. Weaver's little-scene galpal has been killed off of ER. Punks' writer, director and producer Patrik-Ian Polk has begun production on Noah's Arc. See www.noahsarc.net .
Reality Stars Here
Reality stars of shows such as The Amazing Race, Big Brother, Boy Meets Boy, Real World, and Road Rules have formed 'The Reality Cares Foundation' (www.realitycares.org) to raise money for people affected by diseases such as Alzheimer's, breast cancer, diabetes, and HIV/AIDS. The Foundation kicks-off its first national event April 22 with 'The Real Deal' Chicago hosted by Tamron Hall of Fox News. The event will raise money for HIV/AIDS by bringing together some of the most popular lesbian and gay reality stars for an evening of reality show clips, celebrity host interviews and a live audience Q&A.
