'The Homestretch' screening March 14
Community Cinema, WTTW, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, and the Polk Bros Foundation are presenting an advance screening of The Homestretch, a film by Anne de Mare and Kirsten Kelly.
The screening will take place Saturday, March 14, 2-3 p.m., at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington St. ( A panel discussion and resource fair will take place 3-5 p.m. )
The Homestretch follows three homeless teens ( Roque, Kasey and Anthony ) as they fight to stay in school, graduate and build a more stable future. As their stories unfold, the film explores their plights within the larger issues of poverty, race, juvenile justice, immigration, foster care and LGBTQ rights.

Tret Fure concert March 7 in Hinsdale
Lesbian musician Tret Fure will perform with Buddy Mondlock at the Unitarian Church of Hinsdale, 11 W. Maple St., on Saturday, March 7, at 8 p.m.
Fure's career spans four decades. Along the way, she worked as a duo with Cris Williamson throughout the '90s, releasing three CDs together during those years.
In 2009, Fure received the Janine C. Rae Award for her work in women's music.
Fure has her own label, Tomboy girl Records, and has a line of clothing also called Tomboy girl.

'Louder than a Bomb' festival in March
The organization Young Chicago Authors ( YCA ) will present Louder than a Bomb ( LTAB ), a youth-poetry festival that culminates March 21 and 28 ( both 6-9 p.m. ) with Indy and team finals at the Rubloff Theater at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Arie Crown Theater, respectively.
This marks the 15th anniversary of LTAB, which has been supported this year by people such as Alec Baldwin, Alfre Woodard and hip-hop composer Ali Shaheed Muhammad ( a.k.a. Ali from A Tribe Called Quest ). The 2015 Louder Than A Bomb festival encompasses more than 90 performances at 10 venues, featuring the talents of 1,300 students from more than 130 schools across 100 different Chicagoland zip codes.

African-American movie collection is funded
The company Kino Lorber successfully campaigned via Kickstarter to fund the collection Pioneers of African-American Cinema, according to a press release.
The $35,000 target goal will support the creation of HD masters, the production of interviews and the recording of new scores for the silent films. ( As of Feb. 28, Kino had raised more than $38,000. The campaign ends in late March. ) The four-Blu-ray collection will showcase the works of such influential figures as Oscar Micheaux, Spencer Williams, Zora Neale Hurston, James and Eloyce Gist, and others.
