On March 13, a couple local college basketball teams found out who their NCAA Tournament basketball opponents will be this week and where they will play.
The Loyola Ramblers men's basketball teamwho defeated Drake 64-58 last week to capture the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in the Ramblers' last year in the conferencewas assigned the number-10 seed in the South region of the tournament. Loyola will take on Ohio State (the seventh seed) in Pittsburgh's PPG Paints Arena on Friday, March 18, at 11:15 a.m. CT; the game will be shown on CBS.
The winner of that game will take on the winner between second seed Villanova and 15th seed Delaware.
Gonzaga received the top overall seed for the NCAA tournament, with Arizona, Kansas and defending champion Baylor being the top seeds for their regions.
On the women's side, DePaul is inbarely.
The Blue Demons (who played one of the toughest schedules in the country) will take on Dayton in the First Four play-in game of the 68-team tournament on March 16 in Ames, Iowa, The DePaulia noted.
The Flyers finished with an overall record of 25-5 and 14-1 in their conference play, while the Blue Demons finished 22-10 and 14-6 in Big East play. The winner will then play sixth seed Georgia.
Downstate, the Illinois men's basketball team have been seeded fourth in the South and will play 13th seed Tennessee-Chattanooga in PPG Paints Arena on Friday, March 18, at approximately 5:50 p.m. CT. The winner of that game will take on the victor between fifth seed Houston and 12th seed Alabama-Birmingham.
