AIDS Run and Walk
Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich and Chicago Mayor Richard Daley have signed on as honorary co-chairs on this year's AIDS Run & Walk Chicago set for Saturday, Sept. 20, at 10 a.m. at Grant Park's Museum Campus, Columbus Drive and Roosevelt Rd. In addition, 76 other elected public officials have agreed to serve as members of the Run & Walk's honorary committee.
AIDS Run & Walk Chicago will also have pre-event, route and post-event music entertainment as well as a 'Health Expo' featuring 20 local organizations that provide health, legal, prevention and other services to individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS.
Registration materials, including team packets, pledge forms, brochures and materials to promote this year's Run & Walk, can be obtained by visiting www.aidschicago.org or calling the AIDS Foundation of Chicago at (312) 922-2322. Advance per-person registration is $20; on-site is $25.
Run & Walk proceeds benefit the AIDS Foundation of Chicago's grant-making program. The event is also an important way to show support for efforts to sustain and expand responses to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
LCCP Fall Fundraiser
IBM presents a benefit brunch for the Lesbian Community Cancer Project Sunday, Oct. 19. This event replaces the popular annual LCCP benefit cruise, which became too expensive to undertake.
Cabaret diva Ann Hampton Callaway will peform at the event, which will be at Speakeasy Supperclub, 1401 W. Devon, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Celebrity bartenders will include Vernita Gray, Heather Sawyer, cin salach, and Amy and Rainbow from Star Gaze.
Tix: $100, $250 (single ticket plus reserved seating at performance), $500 (single ticket plus reserved seating at performance and special recognition at event).

Amigas Latinas Hosts Bienvenido Brunch
On Sunday, Sept., 14, from 2-5 p.m., Amigas Latinas will hold a Bienvenido /Welcome Brunch for Latina lesbian, bisexual and questioning women. 'Whether you're new to the community or have been out for years, the Bienvenido/Welcome Brunch is a great way to learn about the work of Amigas Latinas and meet other Latina women like yourself,' the group said. 'Please bring a small dish to share'
Amigas Latinas is a support, education and advocacy group for lesbian, bisexual and questioning women of Latina heritage and celebrated its eighth anniversary this summer. Their membership is more than 200 women from all Latina cultures and all ages. It is still the only organization of its kind in the Chicago area promoting safe space, educational opportunities and resources for the Latina les/bi women's community.
GL Film Fest Soon
Chicago Filmmakers is pleased to announce that Reeling 2003: The 22nd Chicago Lesbian and Gay International Film Festival will take place Nov. 6-13. Reeling, the second oldest lesbian and gay film festival in the world, will present the best in independent lesbian and gay film and video from around the globe.
The Festival's Opening Night Gala will be at the Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Ave., Nov. 6. Festival screenings will take place throughout the week at The Landmark Century Centre Cinema and at Chicago Filmmakers' theater in Andersonville.
Thanks to a major travel sponsorship by Chicago-based Orbitz, this year's Festival will include an unprecedented number of visiting filmmakers, producers and actors who will appear at screenings and special artist receptions.
The Festival film line-up will be announced at the conclusion of an extensive selection process currently being undertaken by a diverse panel of a few dozen volunteers from the community.
