U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney saidin a segment of the CBS show 60 Minutes that aired Sept. 26she was "wrong" to oppose same-sex marriage when her objection to it caused a public split with her family, including her lesbian sister, Mary, and her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, USA Today reported.
Asked by reporter Lesley Stahl about the issue, the Wyoming Republican said her thinking has changed on the subject.
"I was wrong. I was wrong. I love my sister very much. I love her family very much," Cheney said. "It's a very personal issue, and very personal for my family. I believe that my dad was right. And my sister and I have had that conversation."
Liz Cheney famously broke with her family in 2013 by opposing same-sex marriage ahead of a failed Senate bid.
Mary Cheney is married to Heather Poe.
Liz is running for a fourth term next yearbut her opposition to ex-President Donald Trump is making her bid a tough one in the conservative state. Trump has vowed to defeat Cheney by backing Republican attorney Harriet Hageman.
