In the crowded race to succeed Illinois state Rep. Sara Feigenholtz in the 12th District ( which includes the Gold Coast, Near North, Old Town, Lincoln Park and Lake View ), first-time candidate Jonathan A. "Yoni" Pizer received a key endorsement from Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, according to a press release.

"I'm proud to endorse Yoni Pizer for State Representative in the 12th District. For decades, Yoni has been fighting for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, supporting progressive candidates, and serving his neighbors," Lightfoot said in a statement. "I have been impressed by Yoni's integrity, passion, and work ethic, and I look forward to supporting his campaign."

He also recently received an endorsement from U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin ( D-Wisconsin ).

Pizer is part of a Lake View-based real-estate business that includes husband Brad Lippitz; together, they have hosted events for politicians such as U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley, presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg and Lightfoot.

Feigenholz is expected to be appointed to the state Senate seat currently held by Senate President John Cullerton, who has announced he will be retiring this year.. There are at least five other candidates in the 12th District race, including two other LGBT individuals: attorney Ryan Podges and former Cook County Commissioner Bridget Gainer staffer Marty Malone.
