On March 31, 2022, Life Is Work will hold its first annual Chicago Trans Visibility Pageant 2022-2023. This is an amazing opportunity for transgender/nonbinary people to showcase their talents and win up to $5000 in cash/prizes. It is also a night to celebrate trans identity and activism with Awards for Chicago's most prominent transgender community members. The event will take place at the Kehrein Center for the Arts from 7-11p with a VIP reception from 5:30p to 7p CST. General Admission is $25, VIP tickets are $65 and General Admission for BIPOC trans/nonbinary people is FREE. All attendees must be fully vaccinated.
Each year on March 31, the world observes Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) to raise awareness about transgender people. TDOV is a day to celebrate the lives and contributions of trans people, while also drawing attention to the poverty, discrimination, and violence the community faces. Around 20% of Americans say they personally know someone who's transgender and media portrayals are overwhelmingly harmful. Transgender people- who are 4 times more likely to be discriminated against in hiring, healthcare, housing and criminal justice- must also face these daily stigmas.
Our 2022 Trans Visibility Award Recipients are: Dr.Maya Green, LaSaia Wade, Elise Malary, Monroe Diamond, ZiRenae Young, and Jae Rice. We will also be awarding Trisha Holloway Riddle as the Lois Bates Trailblazer Honoree, Reyna Ortiz as the Miss Kitty Teanga Trailblazer Honoree, and Dr.Lourdes Ashley Hunter as My sister's Keeper LifeTime Achievement Award for their outstanding work in lifting up the community.
