Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago names Cecilia Horan President

Chicago, Illinois — February 2, 2016 — LAGBAC names new president. The Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago ( "LAGBAC" ) named Cecilia Horan as its new president on January 1, 2016. Horan is LAGBAC's first woman president. Horan is a partner at Hinshaw & Culbertson, LLP, where she concentrates her practice in tort litigation and insurance coverage disputes. She previously served as LAGBAC's Vice-President and chaired the Special Events Committee, which has maintained a presence at Chicago Market Days and organized an annual Pride reception for Cook County Judges. "LAGBAC is tremendously important to Chicago's LGBT legal community," says Horan, "and I am grateful for the organization's trust in me." The outgoing President, John Litchfield of Foley & Lardner LLP, led LAGBAC since 2010. Litchfield says, "I have known Cecilia for many years. She is a tireless advocate for the LGBT legal community, and I look forward to seeing LAGBAC's continued growth and impact under her leadership."
Founded in 1987, LAGBAC is a not-for-profit organization that promotes the professional development and advancement of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender legal professionals. LAGBAC sponsors various professional and social events related to LGBT issues, including a variety of Continuing Legal Education courses, a student and young lawyer mentoring program, and its monthly "Meet the Bar" night, a networking event at SideTrack on North Halsted Street. LAGBAC also maintains a database of legal job openings for employers seeking to recruit LGBT candidates. As part of the Alliance of Bar Associations for Judicial Screening, LAGBAC evaluates and recommends judicial candidates with the aim of maintaining independence and integrity in the Illinois judiciary.
"Cecilia's leadership," Litchfield notes, "will bring LAGBAC in a new and exciting direction, and one that promises to create broader appeal to lawyers not only within the Chicago LGBT community, but around the region."
