The 11th Lesbian Community Cancer Project Coming Out Against Cancer ( COAC ) is set for Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at the South Shore Culture Center on Chicago's Lakefront. It will feature a wide variety of entertainment, dancing to top DJs, food catered by Be My Guest, and an opportunity to socialize with more than 2,000 women and men.
The COAC benefit will also include an auction featuring top travel, fitness, art, entertainment and other items. This year, for the first time, attendees will also be asked to bid on certain items, such as health-related products and services, that will then be donated to a woman living with cancer.
"The annual benefit serves two primary goals," said LCCP Executive Director Jessica Halem. "First, it is a fabulous way for women and men to enjoy the company of thousands of LCCP supporters. Second, and most important, the money raised helps provide critical services and programs to all women."
LCCP's programs include cancer support groups for survivors of cancer and their caregivers, smoking cessation workshops, and other projects related to cancer prevention, detection, treatment and living with cancer.
This year's event co-chairs are Laura Stempel and Sandra Nichols. They are seeking volunteers to help with the planning of COAC, as well as volunteers for the night of the event. Call ( 773 ) 561-4662.
Another new feature of this year's COAC benefit is a VIP reception prior to the actual gala. General tickets will be $50 in advance, and the VIP tickets will include access to the entire evening of entertainment, dining, auction and dancing.
