The Lesbian Book Discussion Group celebrated its 20th anniversary on Oct. 21 at Gerber/Hart Library, 1127 W. Granville, with cake, champagne and readings from numerous local authors, who shared a passage from their favorite books.
The Lesbian Book Discussion Group first met Sept. 29, 1987, and is the longest-running program in the library's history.
The event featured such local writers as Achy Obejas, Jorjet Harper, Jackie Taylor and Kathie Bergquist, among others.
Karen Sendziak, a recent inductee into the Chicago Gay & Lesbian Hall of Fame and the president of the Gerber/Hart Library's board of directors, spearheaded the program. Kirsten Leiby, chairwoman of programming, and Cheryl Pattin, coordinator of the lesbian book discussion group, also participated. Photos by Ross Forman |
