NYC drag diva Lady Bunny, best known for her outrageous comedy, her many TV and film appearances, her gravity-defying bouffant hairdos, can actually sing and write hook-filled dance music. She proves it with TAKE ME UP HIGH, a glittering call to the dance floor which has infectious summer anthem written all over it. On the heels of two duets with RuPaul on his last two albums, TAKE ME UP HIGH marks Bunny's first solo release in almost a decade. Wayne Numan of Lybra Records has assembled an impressive roster of international remixers for the project, including Klubjumpers, Edson Pride, Timmy Loop, True2Life and two of Wayne's own sizzling mixes. From commercial dance to deep, soulful house to a harder circuit sound, there's a version to suit every musical taste.
Release parties are scheduled for Miami Beach (Twist on 6/20) and Fire Island (The Pavilion 7/14). Andy Cohen has invited Bunny to promote the song on his wildly popular nightly Watch What Happens Bravo show. Interviews are confirmed on Sirius OutQ Radio and Feast of Fun's wildly popular podcast. In support of the song, Bunny will tour constantly all summer, headlining at night clubs, gay pride festivals, and dj gigs to elevate dance lovers from Los Angeles to Amsterdam. In addition to Bunny snagging June the covers of NYC's ODYSSEY and Toronto's IN TORONTO magazines, look out for a dazzling music video by Steve Willis, who has directed videos for Mary J. Blige and the B-52s. And don't miss Bunny's interview, along with Ellen, Suze Orman, Wanda Sykes, Scissor Sisters' Jake Shears and more on The Out List, which premieres on HBO on 6/27.
Bunny is best known for organizing Wigstock, which was the outrageous drag festival that electrified Manhattan for 20 years. In recent years, the delightfully demented queen has moved on to TV and film appearances in To Wong Foo, Wigstock: The Movie, Comedy Central's Roast of Pamela Anderson, Sex And The City, RuPaul's Drag U and has also found success as a dj. But deejaying and comedy have taken center stage for this versatile performer, whose scandalous youtube parody videos have generated hundreds of thousands of hits. Until now. Says Bunny, "I've made a living playing other artist's music and re-writing pop songs into popular youtube comedy videos, so I'm ready to try my hand at some original music. As a dj I griped about "songs" like Harlem Shake until I decided that instead of complaining, I should put out something more musical myself."
ABOUT WAYNE NUMAN/LYBRA RECORDS
Wayne Numan of Richmond, Virginia-based Lybra Records connected with Bunny through label mate Phillip Ramirez. A seasoned producer/remixer, Numan has worked with artists like Madonna, Olivia Newton John, Pepper Mashay, Viola Wills and Debby Holiday for a wide variety of labels. Says Wayne, "Bunny sent me some demos of songs she'd written but one in particular really got my attention. The very first time I heard TAKE ME UP HIGH, I thought 'This is going to be a massive club anthem!' However, it wasn't just the song that amazed me, but also Bunny's soulful, angelic vocals that completely swept me away. It was like a religious experience and today's music rarely affects me that way. Without wasting any time, I started working on a remix. I also engaged the talents of Paul Goodyear, Edson Pride, QUBIQ and several other remixers I admire, all of whom loved the song as much as I."
ABOUT THE TEAM OF REMIXERS:
Klubjumpers: From Texas, this duo received a 2005 Grammy nomination for "I Believe" by Dee Roberts, which also hit #1 on the Billboard dance chart. They've also remixed Black Eyed Peas, Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Gloria Estefan, India and The Pussycat Dolls. Dan Mathews is currently the Program Director/General Manager for NRRRadio.FM, one of today's leading internet radio stations.
Edson Pride: From Brazil, Edson has reworked Avicii, Calvin Harris, Swedish House Mafia, Pink, Bruno Mars and Alicia Keys' This Girl Is On Fire.
