The Latin United Community Housing Association ( LUCHA ) hosted its first Bringing Resources Home Fair for LGBTQ youth at Northeastern Illinois University El Centro. Twelve community agencies participated in the event. Resources includes included housing, case management, HIV testing, women health services, tenants rights and civil rights.
Due to an extremely low turnout, the day turned into a networking event for the service providers. After lunch, the afternoon turned into a roundtable discussion of best practices on how to reach out to LGBTQ youth to create more awareness around where they can get services outside of Boystown and how to access these services.
Participating agencies included AIDS Foundation of Chicago, Broadway Youth Center, Connections for Abused Women and Their Children, Chicago Commission for Human Rights, Erie House, Heartland Human Care Services, State Farm Agency ( Peter Grande ), Teen Living Program, The Night Ministry, Women for Paseo ( Puerto Rican Cultural Center ) and Youth Empowerment Performance Agency ( YEPP ). |
