Ha Noi, 30 July 2017 - Today, Amazin LeThi Foundation announces the closing ceremony of the Leadership Sports and Education Program, co-implemented by the Community-based Care and Support Center for Health and HIV & AIDS Hai Phong ( HHCSC ). The program took place in Hai Phong and Hanoi, Vietnam, from July 24 to July 30, 2017, with the mission of helping youth to confidently fight prejudice and discrimination of the community and pride in taking new steps to become a good citizenship of society.
During the 7 days program, youth between the ages of 8 and 20 participated in meaningful activities including visiting the steel company and the Animals Asia 'Vietnam Bear Rescue Sanctuary' as well as taking part in discussing on what is the criteria of becoming a good citizen and a good leader. Adolescents have been developing skills through group sessions with Usher's New Look and Israel Gay Youth, giving them the opportunity to listen to their real experiences so they can gain confident to not only bring values, benefits for themselves, in work but also in the community.
On the other hand, through the activities of visiting and interacting with global companies such as Baker McKenzie Vietnam and KPMG as well as listening stories from leaders, young people can learn about career opportunities, internship programs as well as community support policies from company that help them bear the social stigma. In particular, it is the KPMG leader who has made a very sincere share of the story of his life, inspiring them to overcome self and social prejudice.
In addition, through meetings with representatives of the Irish Embassy and the US Embassy, young people have been exploring policies that help socially stigmatized communities of the two countries in Vietnam. The message that Ted Osius convey to the youth was "nothing is impossible if you have two elements, love and objective".
Hieu, from the LGBTQ community said, "By participating in the program, I have a chance to have site visit at global companies as well as inspired by conversations with the leaders, which gave me the strength to build up the stigmatized youth community become stronger."
As the program ends, the youth have been inspired to gain self-confidence, thereby, exploring potential in themselves, as well as being equipped with the knowledge to develop dreams, and equal opportunities as other young people. Adolescents have a chance to visit the real corporate environment, learn about how to run a business as well as career opportunities and employment support policies. This will be indispensable skills for creating a generation of future leaders and mentors, transforming the present life and building a stronger community in the discriminated and community in general.
