Kino Lorber will present a new 4K restoration of Bernardo Bertolucci's 1970 LGBTQ+ masterpiece The Conformist—and it will open Saturday, May 13, at Chicago's Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Ave., for one weekend only.

The plot of the 114-minute movie is as follows: "In Mussolini's Italy, repressed Jean-Louis Trintignant (who plays Marcello Clerici), trying to purge memories of a youthful, [same-sex] episode—and murder—joins the Fascists in a desperate attempt to fit in. As the reluctant Judas motors to his personal Gethsemane (the assassination of his leftist mentor), he flashes back to a dance party for the blind; an insane asylum in a stadium; and wife Stefania Sandrelli (Giulia) and lover Dominique Sanda (Anna) dancing the tango in a working-class hall."

Bertolucci's movie, adapted from the Alberto Moravia novel, features an Art Deco look created by production designer Ferdinando Scarfiotti, a score by the great Georges Delerue; and color cinematography by Vittorio Storaro.
